Early intervention programs are crucial for children and their families, helping them navigate the often complex aspects of child development. For parents with children facing developmental challenges, the roadmap to progress is anything but clear-cut. Each family walks a unique path, with obstacles to overcome, triumphs to celebrate, and a continuous need for support and guidance.
Here at CDI, we understand the intricacies of the parent-child-therapist dynamic, the critical milestones of early therapy, and the personalised approach needed in every case.
Early intervention is more than a buzzword; it’s the foundation of therapeutic services designed to encourage the development of those with special needs, from infancy through to the early years at school. The primary goals are clear:
However, these broad targets must be tailored to the specifics of each child’s diagnosis and strengths, requiring fluid and individualised programming.
Every child’s therapy journey will be different. Every family’s circumstances are different. This is why we have developed a suite of programs that can change over time to meet the individual needs of each child and their family. Here, a child’s parents are not simply observers but active participants in the therapeutic process, constantly involved in their child’s programs, goal setting and attendance pattern.
To learn about our programs and see our therapy spaces we invite you to attend an open day or book a private tour at our Western Sydney or Northern Sydney Centre.
If you are seeking integrated and holistic early intervention, your journey at the CDI will begin with an ESDM Preliminary Assessment.
How a preliminary assessment will run:
The outcome of the assessment will be mapping your child’s current skills against where they should be, based on their chronological age.
From here, the Therapists will write a comprehensive report with a clear clinical recommendation of which programs would be most beneficial for your child.
Once enrolled in our ESDM programs your child will be allocated a ‘Key Worker’ who will be their lead therapist and your main point of contact at the CDI. Each Key Worker has been trained in the ESDM and may come from a background of Early Childhood Teaching, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Psychology, Special Education or Social Work.
Your Key Worker will devise your child’s ESDM program, creating 20-26 goals that will be cover all areas of their development. A copy of the goals will be provided to you in ‘parent friendly’ language to ensure you are aware of the specific goals that will be targeted in your child’s sessions and how you can support progression at home.
Your child’s preliminary assessment will inform the recommendation of which programs will be most beneficial.
This may vary from 7 hours of group and individual therapy across the week, to 1 or 2 hours of therapy.
Your child’s Key Worker will guide you through your child’s enrolment, which may change over time based on their needs and what will be most beneficial at that time.
All recommendations are based on considered Clinical judgement and parents are involved in every decision along the journey.
Formal parent meetings are held at the end of every term giving you and your Key Worker an opportunity to discuss in detail how your child has progressed against their goals throughout the term and what the priorities are for the next term.
The CDI approach is the epitome of versatility and adaptability, with a suite of programs that shift and scale as each child progresses. Here, a child’s parents are not simply observers but active participants in the therapeutic process:
Our aim at the CDI is to provide the highest quality early intervention programs and supports at the most critical time of a child’s development, and then reduce those supports as their skills develop.
For us, success is seeing children move through our suite of programs and increase their time at their Mainstream education setting, in preparation for their transition to school.
